This is a decent quality CVT with solid construction. I opened the front cover to get at the brushes but they turned out to be of poor quality. The device functions normally except when heavily loaded. I'm using this to run a 1500w lightbulb and at higher current there are definitely sparks from the brushes. If you plan to use this as an "industrial" or high-power desktop power supply, I would recommend inspecting the brushes and adjusting the spring pressure on the windings. This can improve performance by reducing sparking on contact with the brushes. Otherwise, this device is immediately ready for use.
