This is a switch that does not normally light residential fires. When you turn on the thermostat, the first thing you hear is the sound of the fan. This will remove any remaining fumes and the blower will set the "sail" in motion, closing the switch and completing the circuit. When the switch is closed, gas can flow and ignite in the chamber. If this switch fails, only the first part of this process takes place. The gas cannot flow and the device switches off. If you're mechanically inclined and comfortable with gas, you can probably change this yourself. I watched a youtube video and changed my first one yesterday. I had no problems and it only took about 2 hours. The next one takes less time.
