My Samsung Smart TV is on a stand in my living room and this pole is the same width as the TV stand, making it easy to sit in front of the stand in front of the TV. My TV's built-in speakers were probably average and mostly worked, but sometimes I wish they were louder. The volume of these speakers is much stronger when needed. As for the sound quality, I find it above average, but while I appreciate good sound, I'm not the deepest expert. In any case, this is completely sufficient for my TV consumption. The speech appears to make the best of the original sound, but cannot compensate for the mediocre speech intelligibility at source that is sometimes experienced with a TV. And my own hearing is not 100%. However, I feel this device meets my particular needs, especially in terms of being the right size and loud enough for my small living space, and even in terms of my noisy stove near the TV. I'll also rate the three options for Speech, Music and Movies, although personally I don't hear much of a difference in different settings (probably not speaker failure, but my acumen I suspect). I connected the speakers to my TV's optical channel and changed the TV settings to the same. At first I had no sound, and then through trial and error I pressed the source button on the speakers themselves - the second of four buttons, right after the power button, and voila! The sound hit me. Haven't tried Bluetooth yet and there's no HDMI on the speakers, but optical works fine for me. I'm glad I chose these speakers.
