I have bought many Abus safety products and I am convinced that not only are they well designed and manufactured, but that I support a lifestyle that is consistent with moral, social and philosophical values which I join. That is, they are all not only designed, but also produced in a civilized, socially responsible, and democratic country, where there are laws prohibiting cruel treatment of workers and the environment. For this reason, I avoid Chinese-made products—China has a long and sordid history of socially, morally, and environmentally irresponsible policies that have negatively impacted Chinese workers and enriched their oppressive corporations and political leaders. So I was deeply disappointed to see that this product was made in China and not in Germany (where all my other Abus products are made) or some other responsible country. However, the design seems good and I have no reason to believe it. A chain lock would not work well, only the people who made it and the environment in which it was made could have been subjected to an undefined level of unregulated and potential abuse.
