This is my third of these four digit combination locks. I use them for my kids so they don't have to remember the key. I haven't had any problems and live in Chicago. Of course, kids bikes are less of a target for theft, so I think the more limited protection these locks offer is just the ticket. The blocking actions are smooth and I've never had any problems with them.

We love Abus locks. We have one for each member of our family of 6. We love that they easily connect together to block multiple bikes. The numbers are nice and big, easy to read, and easy to type, but I sometimes worry that the large visible numbers make it too easy for other people to see the combination. In the past we had a cable lock cut and a bike stolen. They were recommended by a local bike shop.

For its intended purpose, this lock works well. I would not use a combination lock for high security purposes. In my opinion this type of lock should be used when bike theft is unlikely and a light deterrent is needed. I use this lock when I only go shopping or to a café and only leave my bike for a short time. I consider this my "cafe" burg.
