Review on πŸ” Marina Power Filtration System by Nicholas Gendron

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not exactly adjustable.

I bought several marina kits that included this filter and at the same time bought a fourth to spare for my 10 gallon because I thought it would be a great filter for broilers as the flow is adjustable. I later learned that while the output flow can be slightly reduced by turning the flow restrictor at the top of the intake port, the engine will still run at full power. The excess water that doesn't flow through the vent has to go somewhere, and where it goes is from the bottom of the engine through the edges of the impeller flap. This creates a strong downdraft, which not only creates another source of power from the drain, but also expels debris that would be sucked in without the downdraft. Thus, not only were my bettas exposed to two power sources, but the water was not filtered effectively. These filters were fully open when I first set up the aquariums to get rid of the haze quickly and they worked perfectly. So if you have fish that don't mind the current these are great little filters for the price. However, since the adjustable flow was an advantage for me, I have to deduct two stars as I feel deceived.
