These 85 1.4g and 105 DC are my favorite portrait lenses. I use the 85 indoors/low light and the 105DC mostly outdoors. The 85 has creamier bokeh (of course!) and the 105DC has slightly faster autofocus (both focus faster than the 24 1.4g and the Canon 85 1.2L). I once filmed indoor karate for kids and this 85 wasn't lazy enough to capture the flying moves. When set to F5 the 105DC focuses terribly quickly and I've noticed the same goes for the 85 which also focuses faster to F5 than the D700. Both lenses are very sharp (if the image was bad, which I found, it was mostly my fault). Both lenses deliver beautiful skin tones and 3D images. Because it's a new design, the 85g has more contrast and saturation than the 105DC (depending on the scene, sometimes I choose the 105DC for its thinness). When shooting against the sun, the 85mm is significantly better (nano-coated) than the 105DC. The 85mm is well built and well balanced on the F5 and D700. It's a thicker lens but feels pretty good in the hand. After a short period of use I noticed that large deposits were appearing in the lens elements and I assumed this was due to the internal movement of the lens to focus forcing air and thus trapping the deposits (the 105DC has this too). Debris). Was a little surprised as the 85 1.4g has a weatherproof design while the 105DC doesn't. never mind I am very happy with the images and the features it offers. Yes, compared to 85 1.8g, the older brother shows an underestimated return (not necessarily three times better from what I've read). I bought the 1.4g before the 1.8g was rumored online but this lens complements the 105DC well. ***Update***: I have been using this lens as a general purpose lens for over 2 years. It proved very versatile, not only as the gold standard portrait lens, but also as an excellent lens for street and landscape photography. I love the size, weight and confidence this 85g phone offers. This lens is used in my camera most of the time and has taken many satisfying shots that have been praised by family and friends. It worked so well for film (Velvia 50, Provia 100, Kodak Gold), digital (D700/D750), and video (D750). I've also found that my photographic skills have gradually improved through years of experience with prime lenses. I still don't have a zoom lens (I confess I've always been tempted to go for the 14-24 and 70-200 VRII) and I've found that these prime lenses (85g, 24g, 105 DC and 50g ) fit all my current photographic needs. Highly recommended!
