Review on Heavy-Duty 4-Step Folding Ladder With Handgrip And Anti-Slip Pedal - Perfect For Household Use - Supports Up To 350Lbs by John Greene

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This is deceptively dangerous & susceptible to twisting due to the design of the front legs.

Had only used the ladder a few times. I apparently put too much weight on the left side of the upper step and the ladder twisted, tipped sideways & I fell to the floor. I was fortunate to only sustain some heavy bruises to my arms & scrapes to my face. It was on a flat concrete floor in the basement. The ladder says it is rated for 300lbs. I weigh 162 lbs. I was not doing anything that you would not use a step stool for.The problem is the way the ladder is designed. The front legs are small rectangular tube steel, formed into a U with plastic feet where it contacts the floor. Most good step stools have individual legs for contact with the floor. The U shaped front legs & plastic feet are not capable of supporting reasonable lateral loading. This is why this ladder failed. I will never trust this ladder again.I have now purchased a HD 4 step Gorilla Ladder for use in the basement. It has the same 300# capacity, has a wider stance, is higher & they both weigh 17.6 lbs. We also have a 225# capacity 4 Step Gorilla that weighs 11 lbs. & it is much more stable than the ladder under review. Also the ladder we received is a DELXO. It looks to be identical to what we bought. Has a very nice & complete 2 page set of instructions. Too bad the ladder is not as good as the instructions. I didn't like the looks of this ladder & it was very heavy (17.6#). My wife purchased the ladder before comparison shopping & we didn't want to go thru the hassle of returning it. Wish we had returned it.

Pros
  • Anti-slip pedal ensures secure footing and reduces the risk of slips and falls
Cons
  • The ladder may be too heavy to carry up and down stairs
