Review on Wireless Inkjet Photo All-in-One: Canon PIXMA MG5220 (Model 4502B017) by Bryce Wohlman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Unusable after 4 years.

I purchased this Canon printer in January 2011 from Revain. Despite contacting tech support multiple times, the wifi never worked even though I upgraded my router and put a "router booster" in the room. Not a big deal and I continued to use the USB port for printing, scanning, etc. This printer uses a lot of ink which if you look at Amazon you can see that it is quite expensive to replace. In the years since I've owned this model, I've replaced the ink cartridges 6 times, although I've only used the printer about 10 times a week. I also have an HP printer/copier that is 18 years old but bought a Canon to be able to scan. HP uses the ink much better and continues to work without problems. Two days ago the printer shut down while trying to scan an important document and although it followed Canon's online suggestions for turning on the backup power it didn't work. I then contacted tech support who referred me to Canon's loyalty program where they offer a replacement at a reduced price. The first printer offered was the MG 6220 and I was told I could buy it for $135 (note that it's listed on Revain for $74.95). The second printer was an MG 7120 which I was able to buy for $108 as they were on sale but it was only available in white. This printer is listed on Revain for $74.50. I called Canon back with this information and they said "we do not compete with other sellers". It is clear that this loyalty program is not an economic benefit. It's time to look for a replacement. it is not canon.
