Draw some designs with printer paper if that helps. Spray the diluted shampoo onto the surface before applying - this way you can move the tape like a pro to get it exactly where you want it. You can then squeeze the soapy solution out with a credit card or other scraper. I applied it to some of the matte black parts of my bike for protection (e.g. where my bags meet the frame and where the rear wheel splatters dirt and gravel into the seat tube). After several months of hard driving, it shows no signs of peeling, yellowing or other signs of wear. When applied to matte black, you *see* it as it looks darker than uncoated matte surfaces. However, it still looks pretty clean and is definitely preferable to chips and scratches. It removes dirt/grime even better than my original finish (which is sprayed/waxed matte).
