Review on Surebonder 8510 10 24 Threaded Insert by Drew Gengler

BAD DESIGN, BAD PRODUCTION, BAD METAL, BAD TOOLING.

Surebonder is a SUREFAILURE. All I needed was a poor quality tool but this piece of carp was below even the lowest standards! Stay away. Worst of all are the threaded mandrels that screw into your inserts to pull (compress) them. Terribly cheap Chinese junk. Very bad dimensions, material and production. The 10-32 mandrel I used was .008" smaller in diameter than the bolts that are supposed to go into the rivet nuts (high quality American aircraft aluminum) after installation. When I tried to install (install) them, they pulled / the threaded rod just ripped the threaded ends off my bits and left them partially extended so I couldn't get them out without drilling through them, but not tight enough to grab and resist rotation.so I could drill them. CARP!I made the mistake of trying the second one thinking maybe it was just a bad stake or I did something wrong (unlikely) This required drilling out two broken stakes so I used each of the four mandrels and carefully measured and inspected the associated tips (there were supposed to be five sizes, but the smallest set, 6-32, was missing.) Each of them was terribly small, roughly worked and very loose in the bow. Each of these looked more like the lowest of the low-end products and were much smaller in diameter/thread size. Other problems were that neither mandrels nor lugs could be tightened well because only knurled grips were provided on the tool handle and lugs - no flats for everting. Good for the nose but unacceptable for the grip because after it ripped off the steps I had to work hard to unscrew it from the damaged rivet nut and it simply unscrewed the mandrel from the tool leaving the mandrel in the rivet nut! BAD DESIGN, BAD PRODUCTION, BAD METAL, BAD TOOLING. And the tool's ergonomics were poor, requiring you to apply a lot of pressure when the handles were too far apart to get a good grip and at bad angles. Thus, this is a prime example of very inferior or cheap tools. - Also completely unsuitable for limited use. Stay away.
