Review on 16-Core, 32-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X by Janis Riekstins ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best thing I have ever used, highly recommended!

Bought on 11/23/2022 at a suggested price of 68k. I don't know if the price matches the quality. On the forum, overclockers read the idea that OEM versions can be worse than box ones, they take a lower IF frequency. Plus maybe my copy was taken away, I'm paranoid, yes. In any case, for my instance, FCLK=1900 is a stable maximum. It starts on 2022, but there are a lot of yellow WHEAs in the magazine, and the system lags. And it's not about the memory, I tried to put the memory at 3200 out of sync, still errors at 2022. It does not start at a higher frequency. At first, randomly rebooted at rest with a Cache Hierarchy Error. I tried everything in a row tips from different forums, nothing worked except disabling the boost. After a week or two it just stopped. I didn’t ate the BIOS at that time, but I experimented with memory timings and installed drivers, maybe it somehow worked. Now with the ated bios and with the default settings it works fine. Tried to manually set PBO limits. Benchmarks, of course, increase, but any load - and the coolers roar, so I left the car, it is the fastest and quietest. I tried to cheat with whore, but I feel sad there. Even -10 on the best kernels leads to random reboots at the start of Windows. I left this business, now there is no desire to poke around for the sake of a 2-3% increase. In general, the processor is OK. Probably better to take the BOX version. My build: *Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero * Alphacool Eisbaer LT360 *G. SKILL F4-3200C14D-32GTZSW * be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 1200W On the screenshots, the temperature in the room is 27 degrees. The case is ventilated by four be quiet! in addition to three dropsy. Without them, the temperatures of the power supply and video card rise strongly at rest.

Pros
  • Great single-threaded performance and many cores. For a home working PC, this is really a top solution. For a workstation, it's probably better to wait for a new threadripper or take a 10980xe.
Cons
  • Can be unstable even in stock, there are many precedents.
