Review on Starrett 11H 12 4R Combination Square Wrinkle by Will Murphy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality, accurate, beautiful

If you only work with double stock and plywood, buy a Speed Square at your local hardware store. If you are looking to create quality furniture or heirlooms then you have come to the right place. If all you ever got your hands on were the combination squares you can find on the counter at your local hardware store, then you'll be delighted to be able to wrap your fingers around Starrett. The first thing you'll notice is the weight, not only is the cast iron head heavier than cheap aluminum or zinc in a typical $10 square, the blade is heavier too. The fit and finish are top notch, from the hardened awl to the etching of the blade. But the most important thing is that you know that it is 100% accurate and up to 90 square. (You can just google how to check square by square i.e. test for 2 parallel lines) and it will stay that way. Also made in the USA. My only wish was that instead of cast iron, I could get a hardened steel head (I have a 6" square with a steel head) as it is more resistant to rusting. Also make sure you get a satin blade and not a polished one, it's a lot easier to read. It has a satin blade.

Pros
  • GRADE: Has 4R graduations with quick reading of 1/8", 1/16", 1/32" and 1/64".
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
