Review on ๐ŸŒฟ High-Quality Frankincense Resin - 1 Pound for Spiritual Cleansing & Aromatherapy by Jeffrey Nunes

Carbon rims aren't a problem - they're just no good.

I'm not even sure if it's actually incense. $10 for a whole pound seemed too good to be true because for $10 you should be getting a hefty handful of real stuff. Also, real frankincense (milky bits, opaque) becomes soft and tough when cooked. My colleague introduced me to this stuff when I was living abroad because chewing it can settle an upset stomach (when you don't have access to Pepto!). Cough drops are waxy, but also sticky and very chewy. In addition, the smell is quite unpleasant. Fake, burned, plastic-like. Another reviewer said it's because people use carbon discs and that's just not true. Oman and Egypt use charcoal discs and I've never had a problem burning them on charcoal - that's how it's done these days! Not all slices are created equal, and if you get a slice that burns too hot, your incense will simply turn black and burn without cooking, but slices are used. And to be honest, I've tried putting a few pieces of it on top of the remaining coals in my fireplace (so no charcoal) and the smell is the same - mainly smoky with hints of burnt plastic and real incense. If you are looking for quality incense, this is not it. If you want to test incense resin cheaply, you get a lot for your money here.
