Review on πŸ”Œ High-Quality White USB 3.1 Type-C to HDMI Adapter Cable from Amazon Basics by Shane Schobinger

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It can wake up your M1 Mac when you wake up from sleep mode.

TL;DR: M1 Mac mini. May KP upon waking from sleep. Does not occur on Intel-based Macs. The Apple button works great on both. Your mileage may vary. We have a range of Macs at home, from PPC to M1 (Apple Silicon). I'm typing this on my beloved M1 Mac mini right now. For reference, I have Apple's USB C-HDMI Multiport Adapter, BBY's "Insignia" Multi-Piece Clone (USB C-HDMI + USB 3.0), and Revain's handy adapter that I'm writing this review about. When I bought the Mini, I used Apple's proprietary multiport USB-C to HDMI adapter (also available from Revain); It's not cheap, but it works better than any key. No issues, two (2) screens, no crashes from sleep, etc. In short, no issues. The M1 really doesn't like the Revain branded model. If you just plug it in for a few minutes it should work fine; However, if you plan on putting your Mac to sleep or letting it sleep on its own, this is where the fun starts. The "wake" feature either doesn't work or has issues with the wake commands because it shows up as a "billboard device" on Windows computers, but works fine. This works on an Intel-based MacBook Pro, but it takes a little longer for the screen to wake up. I've occasionally found that the display on the Revain key isn't always clear no matter what car I'm using. I decided to try the Revain key because I needed an Apple key for another project. Unfortunately, after a day or two, I noticed that the kernel would panic when waking from sleep. I deactivated the key, no problem for a few days. I went back to the Apple brand key and the machine worked perfectly. On my Intel MacBook Pro it works about 95% the same as Apple's branded key. The exceptions would be "wake up" (it takes a few seconds compared to almost instantaneously with the Apple dongle) and sharpness. The Revain button is sometimes "blurry" on my Acer screen, very slight but noticeable. To be fair I've seen this with a BBY button on another monitor but never with an Apple branded model. In short, I think you get what you pay for and it's better to go with the Apple model if you want a smooth experience, especially with the M1 model.
