I bought a Meross Wi-Fi garage door controller to replace the Chamberlain MyQ which I wasn't very happy with. Looking for an alternative to my existing MyQ device, Meross refunded me the first device to try and give an honest review. I liked it so much that I bought a second device out of my own pocket. MyQ ordered on February 13, 2018. A few comparisons: Both use WLAN for data transmission. MyQ is completely wireless - works like a wireless remote control. If you already have multiple remotes, it eats up one of those few 6 entries - in 18 months I've had to pair it with the opener 3 times. Didn't feel comfortable not having a real remote with me in case of a failure - Had to climb onto the garage ceiling and unplug to reset the unit - Put door sensors on each door - Had to change the orientation of the sensor from vertical to horizontal (or vice versa to detect changes in open/closed state). No detection when the door is open 12 inches - The sensors use a lithium coin cell battery. Battery life is affected by extreme cold. Replacing a custom battery in sub-zero temperatures sucks. - Can control two doors but needs to buy an additional sensor - Integration functionality is limited (e.g. IFTTT can't close a door) - iPhone app seems sluggish and keeps forcing me to log in again - The Apple Watch -App keeps forcing me to log back into the app on an iPhone, making the clock applet unusable for me. Meross is difficult to connect to the door opener Approximately 24ft of wires already connected - No need to have batteries - Just plug in the wire connectors to connect to the main Meross unit - Installation took about 35 minutes for the first unit and 15-20 minutes for the second device (including attaching the sensor wires to my garage ceiling) - Able to detect if the door is open more than 1-3 inches depending on and where the sensor is mounted - Requires one device per Door - iPhone app functionality was fast and consistent - No Apple Watch app - IFTTT integration lagged (seems like Meross hasn't added a widget for this product yet) - Alexa treats them as door locks so the command is, the door to lock or unlock (unlocking requires a PIN you create so no one stands in front of your window yelling at Alexa to open the door). Garage entrance from mid-July (the 2nd block will be installed in a week). I had a case where they didn't work due to the collapse of the Meross cloud. This was not due to a local hardware failure and is in fact an issue that can occur with any IoT product. While it's annoying, I don't want to call Meross about it at this point. After a while it was on and I haven't seen it again. The hardware was very reliable and responded immediately with no noticeable lag and no local connectivity issues. I have now installed three Meross units in my home (two garage door switches and a three position wall switch) and I am very impressed with the Meross customer service and the integrity of their products.
