I am an experienced knitter who has used wooden, aluminum, bamboo, steel, plastic and even casein socks with caramel colored needles. These measures are good. No bending to small needles. The surface is smooth, but with a wool blend (the only fiber I've tried) the needles aren't too slippery. You KNOW how awful it is to use needles on a surface that looks like wet glass and have the stitches slipping all over the place. Not so with these. As for the tips, they're sharp, but not so sharp that they hurt when I have to strain to get a stitch. Whether you divide your yarn more or less probably depends on how you knit. I do not think so, that it is possible to reliably split yarn with these needles. But if there's a particularly split yarn (and there's a terrible sock yarn), then you'll probably split that too. I knit my basic brioche and the front more by feel than by eye. You're getting more and more presbyopic and see if you do the same! I find the goggles to be very effective in catching a stitch. The case is cute and protects the kit in your bag. The supplied needle size is fine, but no smaller than size 2. These needles fit zero. Mfg makes an 8" caliber which is really very small and even smaller, but it's 8" and won't fit in a case. I drew a nail polish line on the shaft of each needle. Different colors for each set/size. I may not be able to measure gauge, but at least I know which needles go together. probably also split. I knit my basic brioche and the front more by feel than by eye.
