Review on Monoprice Blackbird H.265 HDMI Over IP Kit: 328ft Range, 1080p Full HD, Web GUI Controls by Dre Fowler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent video, very low latency

Installed this system a few weeks ago in a church with one transmitter and two receivers. Right now it's running on the same network as the rest of the traffic (I plan on splitting it into different VLANs eventually). The video looks good, the lag is minimal, I think around 5 frames or less. I didn't observe any jitter/tiling/artifacts, it looks like I connected both TVs with direct HDMI cables. Very smooth video despite the fact that we have a network switch and about 100 feet of cable between the computer and the TV. I haven't tested the sound as it feeds directly into our audio system but will update the review when I get around to testing. I also tried using VLC to parse the same rtsp stream, played it successfully but the latency was terrible, probably some settings that need tweaking on VLC itself to get rid of the buffering. Later I will also do additional tests. But for now it definitely serves our purpose and works much better than regular HDMI extenders.

Pros
  • H.265 support: The HDMI signal can be sent to the receiver via a direct cable connection or by connecting the transmitter and receiver to an existing network. If you are using an existing network, streaming uncompressed Full HD video can cause network congestion. Real-time H.265 video compression reduces the bandwidth required for Full HD video and ensures network performance is not impacted.
Cons
  • Out of fashion
