Review on Rear Axle Wrench for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles - OTC 4882 by Zachary Ester

OTC Wrench 36mm

I purchased this wrench and another from Pit Posse when it came time to tackle the rear wheel of my 2010 Harley Davidson Ultra Limited. The rear wheel has a removable axle nut on one side and a welded-on nut of the same size on the other side of the axle. This key is shorter than the Pit Posse. Both wrenches have a square hole so you can attach them to a torque wrench and tighten the axle to spec. This key actually worked better for this use in my opinion. The shorter length allowed me to maneuver the wrench into the best possible position, and the fact that it's a 12-point design versus the Pit Posse's 6-point design also helped in that regard. The OD of the large end of the wrench is also a better fit for the removable nut as it is slightly smaller than the Pit Posse. The slightly smaller OD doesn't weaken the wrench to the point of failure, and the wrench is thicker anyway, so there's still plenty of meat to get the job done. 12 points does not grab the nut in the same way as 6 points, but does not slip or round the nut. I mentioned square holes in both keys. This OTC brand wrench has a 1/2" drive hole while the Pit Posse wrench has a 3/8" hole. Remember that when connecting to a torque wrench, the wrench MUST be turned 90 degrees from the direction of your torque wrench. This means it won't change the length of your torque wrench or mess up the torque. The wrench comes in a pretty black color with part number 4882 and the word Taiwan. This wrench has no size indicator. The Pit Posse range is marked with their logo and size 36mm. The country of origin is not indicated on the instrument. All in all a very useful tool for the job.
