The edges of the holes were fairly smooth, the bottom was flat. They are intended for use in a drill press. The midpoint is useless beyond 10 or 12 degrees from vertical; moreover, the hole starts at the edge and thus centering on the pit or pencil mark is difficult or impossible. While it's possible on a drill press, it's impossible to do with a hand drill where the bit "walks" at least a little. If you need a clean hole, you should drill them at the recommended speeds (chart attached), which is fast.
