All sponges should be this compact/flat. How fun it is to watch it expand rapidly! They don't stretch much in length or width (maybe 1/4"), but they're quite thick. Thicker than other small sponges I've bought from Target, for example. I just wish they were a little wider. But they are great for cleaning around sinks, counters and spilled floors.
