Review on Wolf Tooth Components Bar-Centric Dropper Remote Lever by Will Anderson

Modifications were required.

I bought this to tidy up my controls as I wasn't a fan of the way the butt release lever was placed. In general, the device is of high quality, however, some modifications were required to install it. First, the clamp screw that comes with it is terrible, it's a stainless steel hex head screw, not a standard screw. The hex is very flat causing it to break off before I could get the torque needed to prevent rotation. There were no instructions and since I use carbon rods I set the torque to 4Nm. I ended up going to Home Depot and bought a pack of 3 M3 head screws for $0.67 which worked really well, but the head is too big to fit in the recess so I had to grind the OD a bit. This was easily done with a drill and sandpaper. The second gripe is that the device is insanely cramped. As a precaution to avoid ruining my carbon bars, I checked the Spank and Bontranger bar fits and on all three sets (1 carbon and 2 aluminum) the fit was overly tight, leaving one set of aluminum bars with a scratch on the paint . The solution was again quite simple and required a Dremel drum sander to remove some material (maybe a thousand) from the inside and then I buffed the inside with another buffing wheel. Very happy with the end result and I have no problem modifying things, but it's a little disappointing that a part that costs so much isn't better designed in terms of assembly and installation. If you're okay with modding stuff then this is a great upgrade for you, but those less mechanically inclined should keep looking for another alternative.
