I don't know what happened, but our DC65 started to "let go" when you grabbed it by the handle. Then the bin fell out when I climbed the stairs (because the vacuum cleaner body was lifted and bent slightly). Finally I saw the red bar on the kitchen table. I don't know the stories behind the decline - whether it was flawless or if the DC65 took a few falls - I still wouldn't expect honest confessions from my spouse or kids. Suffice it to say that this replacement part has solved all these problems.
