Review on ๐ŸŒก๏ธ Original Engine Management 9377 Coolant Temperature Sensor: Reliable Engine Monitoring Solution by Walter Martin

Sensor OK but o-ring doesn't fit (too big)

I have a 2005 Mustang V6 (base model). I bought a Motorcraft RH148 housing and this sensor to fix a leaking thermostat/housing. This sensor is not suitable for this application. More specifically, the sensor fits, but the o-ring doesn't (large). You can reuse the o-ring from your old sensor, but if you have the same one as mine, the old o-ring is the root cause of the leak so you haven't fixed the problem. You can also go to a hardware store and look for an O-ring, but then the value proposition (vs. buying a suitable replacement, Motorcraft DY1004, @$37) becomes less attractive given the added time/energy cost. The best match is #8; the outside diameter fits, but the inside diameter is too large (i.e. the o-ring is not thick enough); I applied #8 silicone grease; works for now but will almost certainly leak. (By the way, one of the customer Q&A said the sensor comes with two O-rings. I only had one.)

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings, everything is fine
