The problem in my case with my 1999 Ford Contour is that the engine was replaced mid year. If the engine was made before 4-1 of this year, then there is a style. If it is done after 4-1 of the same year, then there is a different style. One block is the same as in the photo, and the other has a threaded body. You need to know which one you have or you will get the wrong one.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Upgradeable

Seems to work just as well as OEM. The car still runs perfectly!

Bought with Dorman 902.860. As others have said, the o-ring that comes with the kit is too large to fit a new or old thermostat housing. Good news: the Dorman case comes with a spare case. I'm not entirely sure if this is worth changing or not as I don't know the actual failure rate of these things. But having estimated the cost I could do it while I'm there and take it apart and I would recommend the next person to do the same.

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Discontinued

Sorry I didn't save it

Find another solution for Explorer 2006 or similar. When installed, the supplied o-ring was too large and took longer to remove than actually installing the part. This part failed after 5 months. When this failed, the result was: no air conditioning, no function of the coolant temperature sensor on the console, and the AdvancedTrac light on the console was on all the time. When this part failed, a P0118 code was generated in the scan tool. The 10 year old part worked and I only replaced it…

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • Doubt

Luckily I swapped out the case at the same time.

As many others have said, the o-ring supplied may not be suitable for your application. This was for a 2007 Ford Explorer 4.0L. The included o-ring was too big for the case, even using a small amount of silicone grease didn't help. Luckily I replaced the housing at the same time (Dorman 902-860 thermostat housing kit) and the kit comes with a matching o-ring. I think Revain (or whoever lists them) will now sell them by size or include a smaller o-ring to save others the frustration. Aside from…

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Sensor OK but o-ring doesn't fit (too big)

I have a 2005 Mustang V6 (base model). I bought a Motorcraft RH148 housing and this sensor to fix a leaking thermostat/housing. This sensor is not suitable for this application. More specifically, the sensor fits, but the o-ring doesn't (large). You can reuse the o-ring from your old sensor, but if you have the same one as mine, the old o-ring is the root cause of the leak so you haven't fixed the problem. You can also go to a hardware store and look for an O-ring, but then the value…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings, everything is fine
