Continental Race 28 vs. Michelin Airstop Road

This is my comparison of Continental Race 28 (42mm) and Michelin Airstop A1 (52mm) in size 18-25. Not the lightest, but not the heaviest on the market either. According to my weigh-in, the Continental Race 28 weighs 98g including the threaded ring (which weighs 1g) so all things being equal, they're the same weight (unless you're a full weight enthusiast). Removable valve cores and smooth copper stem. The valve stem length is 40 mm or 52 mm. Unfortunately the 40s go through the stock aero wheel (Mavic Cosmic) but are still a bit short and the 52s are a bit long so I went with the 52s (which were the same weight as the Conti 42s). The physical chamber seems to sit a little tighter on the tire around the valve stem than on the Continentals, but overall there were no installation issues. The tire also has a special coating to make mounting easier. Continental Race 28: Removable core and silver threaded rod, which I think is a bit of a concern as the cores often fall out when the pump is unscrewed (as many have pointed out) and despite being tightly secured with a wrench is less than mental comfort to change the apartment on the roadside. The valve stems are a good 42mm long for standard aero wheels and also 60mm long which is too long for standard aero wheels. The tire is uncoated but easy to mount. All in all these are very good tyres, the main difference is the valve stem. If you want a strong non-removable core choose Michelin, if you prefer a removable thread choose Conti. You can't lose with either as both are reputable brands and physical tires are good either way.
