Review on Glad Press'N Seal Plastic Food Wrap - 70 Square Foot Roll (Package May Vary) by Kevin Compton

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Full disclosure: I used this for my chick brooder.

I have no clue how effective this product is in the kitchen, but it saved my sanity while brooding newborn chicks!I applied it to the top of a towel-wrapped heating pad which was supported by a hardware cloth 'cave', an alternative to heat lamps when raising chicks. Of course, they want to get on top of the device like they would on a mama hen. Poop ensues, mess is had, cleaning is a pain in the butt. Not so with this stuff stuck on top of the brooder pad! Chick poop frikkin SLIDES right off of it when dry. I thought I'd have to regularly change the Press'n Seal, but even that might not be strictly necessary. I dunno, I changed it just to be safe about a week in.I did have minor issues with the product losing adhesion around the edges and had to help a little one get loose when stuck at 2 days old, but there was no damage done to the chick. The product is just clingy enough to stick to fluff, but not enough to cause a problem when being removed. When I switched out to a new piece of wrap a few days later, I avoided that problem by pressing and removing the product around the edges to kinda de-sticky it a bit.Like I said, no idea how well this works in the kitchen but I'll never brood chicks again without it!

Pros
  • Protects food from freezer burn
Cons
  • the wrap isn't as effective as reusable containers for storage
