Slow filtration but fixed with new filter model

Update: I installed a replacement filter. The filter that came with the kit was an old model. The PUR replacement sent to me was a new and improved "faster" model advertised as a "twice as fast" filter. I poured 2 cups of water into the tank and it was empty in 2 minutes! The same amount of water took 20 minutes with the old filter, so the new filter is 10 times faster according to my test. I saw the water flow. No water leaked from under the filter mount, so I know it was sealed tight with an o-ring. I am very happy with the new filter. Please note this pitcher does not filter lead like the old model. Original Review: I've had this 7 cup jug for about a month now and have mixed feelings about it. I really like this pitcher as I drink more water now but the slow filtration is disappointing. When I first got it I followed the instructions and soaked the filter for 15 minutes before putting it in. I filled the top tank with 2 cups of water and timed it to see how long the water would take to filter. After 40 minutes only half of the water had gone through. A plug-in card is included with the PUR with instructions on what to do if the filter is running slowly (a bad sign). I shook the filter and flushed it upside down to clean the ports as recommended. After that I restarted the test and after 40 minutes most of the water drained out. I refilled the reservoir (it holds 2.5 to 3 cups of water) and put the pitcher in the fridge overnight. By the next morning all the water had evaporated. I used 2 cups and added 2 cups back. This time it took about 30 minutes to filter most of the water. There was about 1/2 cup left, but it eventually leaked out before I used it again later that day. After a few days, the best time I've had was around 10 minutes for a cup, or 30 minutes for a full tank. week he stopped filtering completely. One evening I filled the tank and the next morning there was still water in the tank. I emptied the tank, then shook and rinsed the filter. This resulted in him going back to work for another week when he stopped working again. Rinse and repeat. Two days before the end of the return period, I called PUR customer service. The woman I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. She told me the typical emptying time for the 7 cup model is an hour, so my 30 minutes is well within spec. What wasn't normal was that after a week it stopped working and I had to shake it and rinse it out. PUR is sending me a "free disposable" replacement filter to try out. I hope I just have a bad filter, but I don't know. Another thing I discovered during this time is not to fill it straight from the tap. Bubbles from the aerator enter the filter cartridge and stop the flow of water. When this happens I've found a way to clean it by spraying water around the tank; You will see air bubbles pass through the filter and the water will start filtering again. If that doesn't help, drain the tank and start again. The best way to fill it is to fill a measuring cup or other container to let the air bubbles out and then pour the water into the container.
