Good idea, very poor execution

I had problems with this router (and replacement for the same model) from the start. During the installation, the wizard failed several times and only half configured the router. I finally managed to finish the wizard and at first everything seemed to be working. However, the router simply freezes and needs to be restarted manually or randomly. Every time the router rebooted it would default back to the default network name and password and all my smart home devices would go off until I could go back to the router and change the settings. I also bought a router to integrate with TPLink motion and open/close sensors so I can automate my TPLink smart lights and sockets. I bought one of each of the sensors but both didn't work with the router to complete an automation. I called support several times but couldn't solve the problem. I replaced the router thinking I had a bad router, but I still had some of the same issues. I was able to set up the second router much faster, but the rebooting issue still persisted, as did the lack of sensor support. I would not recommend buying this router as I have had some issues with multiple routers and the lack of support could result in a $200 electronic paperweight.

Pros
  • Feels good
Cons
  • Not the best
