All settings except lowest burn toast

This toaster has 7 brightness settings. The first time I tried it, I put it right in the middle, at 4. The toast was almost black. So I set it to 2. It's still too dark. Setting 1 was the only acceptable setting. I can't imagine why there are settings 3-7 on this toaster at all.
