Review on 🚲 Universal Bike Shift Derailleur and Brake Cable Housing Replacement Kit - YAKAMOZ 2-in-1 for Mountain Road Bike Cycling Repair by Chris Palmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good quality but a bit short

I bought this kit to replace the rear derailleur on my old 2013 Diamondback. The original was worn out and I decided to take it to a bike shop. Usually these repairs are inexpensive, but when I realized how cheap the cables are I decided to do it myself and I'm glad I did. The quality seems great, there are two derailleur cables and two brake cables. I accidentally cut the brake cable thinking it was the shifter cable so watch the ends but that was entirely my fault. Once I found the right cable and pulled it through, I found it was too short. So short that if I left all the outer cables the same length, the inner cable wouldn't reach the front derailleur locknut. I ended up removing about 3 inches from the front outer cable closest to the derailleur and about 2.5cm from the rearmost outer cable to allow for the inner cable to reach and even then that was enough to thread it back through the lag bolt and that remaining piece was long enough to be crimped. This made it a little harder to tug on the cord as the cord was barely long enough for the job. I would like the cable to be at least 4 inches longer, 6 to be safe, but 8-10 would actually be better as this cable was too small for a medium sized frame, not sure if it was a larger frame. . I had to throw away some pieces of the outer cable when I had to cut them off after realizing it wouldn't work, but I liked that it came with outer cables and ends. Everything is of good quality, good wires, well fixed but a little short.

Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
