This cable failed before first use. The plastic case cover is too malleable and may crack or tear. This product needs to be pulled out. My case cracked after installation and before I rode my bike onto the street. It may only look like a blemish, but the shroud is necessary to keep the brake cable taut. No tension, NO BRAKES. If the cable fails during use, serious injury may result. Brakes are very important on a bike.

Many of the other budget kits on Amazon only have a brake cable housing and cable which will not give you the smooth shifting you are looking for. This is a very inexpensive replacement brake and shift cable for amateur cyclists like my wife and me. Our bikes (Giant) are 90% Shimano parts and I only have one small complaint. The Shimano brake cable nipple (more barrel-shaped than the pear at the other end) for Shimano brakes is slightly smaller in circumference and height, causing the nipple not to sit straight or tight in the brake housing mount.
