Why don't you keep them handy?
Time and again I berated myself for letting my old barrel dry. This must be kept to hand. After the device runs dry, the sludge clogs the existing filter. I'm not a heating expert, but I think you should still replace them at least once a year. Purchasing a multipack like this ensures you have it when you need it.
