I have a second one. Bought the first one in 2007 and had to replace it after it stopped recognizing RAM drives. I have to say I used it A LOT, recording and playing daily for all four years. I probably had thousands of hours on my first device so I'm not complaining. The new device is pretty much the same as the first one, just with a few new features that I'll never use anyway. It's hard to believe that so little has changed in four years, but for me it's GOOD. I'm not a techie and I still have a 15 year old TV and a large VHS library and lots of old DVDs. At my age I'm too old to keep following the technology as it improves so a new block with all the original features working the same is perfect for me. Be that as it may, these devices have dozens of very complex functions that I don't even bother with and never will. I know this is probably older technology, but for my way of recording TV shows to watch later, RAM disks work great. It also records and plays VHS tapes well and does a great job with store-bought DVDs. It transfers VHS to DVD well, but I'm lazy and tend to leave my VHS tapes on VHS. I keep saying I'll rebuild my entire library, but I never do. Maybe sometime. All these machines have the same characteristics - slow startup, slow switching of modes and channels, slow reading from disks. Sometimes the processor fails, and to reset it you need to disconnect the computer from the network. For me these are small inconveniences that I don't notice because the device does what I need very well. Overall, this is probably the best device for my needs. I just hope they keep making them. I'm an old dog and not very interested in learning new tricks. you need to disconnect the computer from the network.
