For me the perfect everyday compression for calves and ankles in the cool season. quality socks! They are soft and warm. The only thing I might not be able to say too well is that some people might like more compression in the foot area than they can provide. The size is just such a wide range. I wear the women's 8's and they just didn't have the tight feeling of compression in the foot area that the rest of the sock did. As for me, I like that I can spread my toes easily in it and have no problems. If I was looking for medical compression or training socks, I might choose something else. But from me +! I think they are great for hiking in cool weather.
