Great Spoons - Homeware

These are Great Spoons. I like their material and shape and the fact that they aren't coated with chemicals or any kind of varnish, just oiled wood. I use them for eating, tasting while cooking, stirring, scooping, etc. They are more comfortable to use than metal spoons, but because of the thickness of the end of the spoon, they sometimes don't scoop very small liquids as easily with them (e.g. reduced sauce to taste). ) from the pot. They are lightweight and durable. They are easy to clean but need to be oiled very often to avoid dulling the color and also fraying the edges, usually the sides wear out first. Wood can dry out and crack if you don't oil it regularly. I usually oil them about once a month (simply because I usually think about oiling them after waiting for them to dry completely and if I remember I use them for another meal). I don't mind if they don't always look new either. I have ordered many of these teak FAAY spoons over the years (including all other spoon shapes) and this shape is my favorite, perhaps more of a general purpose spoon. I use them every time I cook/eat so they get used a lot and they should last a long time if you remember to oil them from time to time. If they get rough around the edges, use a hard green scouring pad to sand them down a bit, wash them, let them dry, and then oil them after they're completely dry. I apply a thick coat of edible mineral oil, let it soak overnight and by morning they have absorbed most of the oil. They look like new after a few days of heavy use until they start fading again. These spoons are expensive but I was very happy with them. I wouldn't recommend them to people who don't want the extra hassle of maintaining wooden utensils. Treat them well and they will last a long time.
