No need for batteries
I bought this because I could plug it in.Now opening the lid fifty times a day isn't a problem as there is no battery to go dead. The lock feature is simply a movable device that slides over the door lid to keep pets from opening the lid when you aren't around. That's a nice feature. There is also an odor device you put into the back of the lid that controls smells. This is replaceable as needed. This is the best trash can yet for my kitchen. CAUTION: When you go to a friend's house, the trash lid won't open no matter how long you hold trash in front of it. 🤣 I know 'cause I do it all the time.
