replaced this particular RCA DOCSIS 2.0 modem with a new DOCSIS 3.0 modem (Motorola Surf 6120). During these 4 years, RCA provided almost 365/24/7 service. It switched itself off for a long time outside the home, e.g. B. when I went on vacation and turned off all computers and the modem. It was still working when I donated it to a local charity. ============================================== A note on the new Surfboard 6120: Motorola DOCSIS 3.0 is incredibly fast/data transfer speed. In fact, sometimes I HAVE to turn it off or I'll go over the monthly data limit set by comcrap. I share several flavors of LINUX in ISO file format, as well as some Linux-based security ISOs like Backtrack 4 and the like. The SB6120 easily moves 10-20GB of data per day.==================================== == ======---ENDS 10/23/2010 DCM315R Original Review Update -------------------- Original Review: No more than $3.00 at a time month rent for me. Having used 4 comcast for rent modems (3 motorola + terayon surfboards) in less than a year, I have had this with comcrap modems. Note: Comcrap HSI cable modem: It takes about 3-5 days on average to get back online after the modem goes down. [Comcrap wants to send a technician to troubleshoot the line, but they want to do it from 1pm to 5pm when I'm working at the same time. This does not work for me. I will not take time off work to ask someone to fix something I already know is wrong; Modem. Best case scenario I have to leave work early to even get into town and just leave the old modem and get a new one]. RCA modem: I contacted comcrap to give them my new MAC gear. Adder, for RCA modem. The whole thing took about 15 minutes; so they enter my MAC address into their system and help me get started. I like the modem. Pros: 1. The INTERNET ON/OFF button saves me from turning the software firewall on and off.2. Installing the software is very easy. The device recognizes XP Home Edition and the driver can be installed without problems.3. "DAN ELWELL SpeedTest" turned out to be as fast as my old Motorola and/or terayon.4. The PRICE was correct. They were on Radioshack B&M for $29 (usually $79.99) on August 7, 2006, but WAIT. The price only went up $19.99 NOT $29.99 on the store sign. An absolutely great offer. I bought two. One for use and spare.5. Setup/installation is one of the fastest and easiest devices to install. CONS: 1. What happened to RCA's online registration and support? Regarding these cable modems? It was difficult for me to find an online registration site.2. They (RCA) may have sold their cable modem division; Who knows. Conclusion: I like the modem better than a Motorola for surfing or a Terion. I'm NOT an online player, so I can't solve this problem. And I can't conclude if RCA is better or worse for online gaming.
