Review on 1Storm Motorcycle Street Bike Modular/Flip Up Dual Visor Sun Shield Full Face Helmet by Sadik Pinger

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very nice, functional helmet.

Very nice helmet for a reasonable price. The visor and internal shade are not treated against fog - at least not that I could see, but still a very good deal. The helmet is reasonably light and very functional; the flip-up face works just fine, no concern whatsoever. The tinted visor is controlled by a rotating button under the left ear that works fine, although I might change my opinion when I see how long it lasts (no reason to worry yet, except for my experience with other similar designs). My head is precisely 60cm around and I therefore procured the XL. This has a tag inside saying "61cm-62cm" and while the helmet holds well it is indeed slightly wide. I got a chance to try an L and it is too tight for me, so XL was the right choice. The chin strap is not a snap-on type but has two rectangular buckles - the opposite side features a small snap fastener that allows attaching it safely so that it does not flap around while riding. Not perfect (the snap fastener is plastic and might not last very long) and not easy to attach with gloves but very simple, reliable and functional. The tinted visor is grey, not brown (better if like me you are astigmatic), and not as dark as I wish it were. Not a deal breaker. The helmet features two vents in the front and two at the top of the forehead that work very well when at decent speeds and can be closed with two reasonably easy to find sliders.A remark about the inside padding.I live in the tropics and heat can be unforgiving when stuck in a traffic jam in full sun, so I have to clean the padding from time to time. There are three separate chunks of padding that can be dismantled for cleaning: one under each ear plus the scalp. The two under the ears are attached with two snap fasteners at the front and a hard plastic card that inserts between the expanded polystyrene that forms the cushioning and the outer shell. You want to remove them first, by popping the snap fasteners out and then gently pulling the card out - each is locked in place by two pieces of Velcro (each). The scalp-covering padding is attached with two snap fasteners at the back of the head, and a molded plastic stripe at the front with both tabs that insert in the outer shell and small plastic snap fasteners. It can be a little delicate to remove and I did break half a snap fastener but the geometry is very well designed and after it's been put back in place it holds just as expected.I clean these with just a little, gentle soap, hand washed and carefully rinsed, then spun in a bag in the washing machine set on "delicates".Putting it back together is the same in reverse. One trick: the Velcro holding the side padding gets in the way of inserting the card all the way tot he right position. To ease the operation, just insert some card (key card, business card) between the polystyrene and the Velcro taped to the outer shell first, then insert the padding and place it properly, and then remove the card, allowing for the matching Velcro to attach.
