Subaru Forester Trailer Wiring Harness Adapter

Installing this adapter was a breeze. If I had to build another car, exactly the same as the one I put it in, from the moment I opened the back door to the moment it closed again, it would have more than 10 minutes (if any). That includes the time it took me to find a small tool, which I used to pry out the plastic pins that hold the piece of foam that covers the actual Subaru connector that this unit fits onto. The connector it fits onto is on the floor of the car and the connector on this adapter is perfect for a click. It may take a few minutes to figure out where to attach the "black box" piece so it doesn't get in the way of the standard styrofoam pieces. I put it up Thursday night and drove to the U-Haul on Saturday morning and rented a covered 5x8 trailer so I could haul out some old couches and everything went great (meaning all the lights worked exactly as requested ). If you own a Subaru Forester and are thinking about installing the hitch yourself, do yourself a favor and just let the guys at U-Haul do it. My Subaru dealer wanted close to $200 just for the complicated hitch parts alone, plus they wanted me to leave the car and come back. Calculation for at least 2 hours of work! I don't know exactly how much they charge for the job, but if it's less than $60 an hour I'd be very surprised. You would also have to order a tow hitch because it was out of stock. U-Haul had inventory and the total cost, hitch, labor, taxes and everything that was out front was $203 plus change. The hitch, including the tongue and hitch ball, was $149 and was billed for a half-hour of labor (although it took a mechanic about an hour to install). There are also taxes. I was waiting for him there at the U-Haul station and was back on the road in less than an hour.
