For their purpose the screens themselves work very well. When you stand next to them, you can feel the warmth that they don't let through. As you move away from them, the room gets cooler. They look a lot sleeker than the ones we've had before and the foil image is barely noticeable from the outside. I was concerned that it would appear like we closed the windows to prevent the alien brain from controlling the waves, but it looks pretty good from the outside. What keeps them from a 5 star rating is the extremely cheap screws that come with the device being installed. . But it's important to note that this is literally my only complaint. I'll rant a bit but keep looking at that 4/5 rating and remember the main unit itself is good and worth the money. Just make sure you have real screws to work with. First, why does the installation, which seems obvious (to me), only require 4 screws. At first I thought I lost the screw because I was a fool. However, when you opened the next set, it also only had 3 screws, so you're basically tightening the screw with each set. Next, the quality of the screw: it's terrible. Judging by the fact that it comes with anchors (again only 3 so understand this is now intentional) these cheap screws are designed for drywall or amazingly soft wood. I screwed them into the inner frame so they stuck and fell off. Luckily I had a set of removal tools and was able to get them out, but it should be noted that these screws are not intended for anything other than drywall. Always use stronger screws when using this unit on a real wood window frame. It was terribly frustrating after spending almost $200 for 4 sets. That's the only thing they could improve: real screws and give us 4 instead of 3. What I haven't tried is adjusting the retract speed. I thought it was fine the way it is and didn't bother, but the instructions made it a lot easier than it really is. Since I was happy with the default setting, I didn't bother.
