I'm not a big coffee drinker. I never thought about buying a coffee maker. From time to time I mostly drank instant coffee. I researched options for making coffee at home and found that a standard coffee maker would just take up too much space on my counter and be a huge expense for someone like me. So I went from looking for French presses (I didn't realize you needed specially ground coffee for a French press before) to looking for a spout option. I like it. I found myself making several cups each day. I decided to use it with a paper filter because I thought it might extend the life of the metal filter. I heat water in a glass measuring cup in the microwave, pour coffee over it and voila, I have freshly brewed delicious coffee. First I followed the instructions by running hot water through the filter and rinsing out the glass carafe. More recently, I've simply poured hot water over the dry soil in the filter and the taste stayed the same. I even mix sugar and cream in a glass carafe and take it to where I'm going to have my coffee and it's so relaxing. I would recommend this item to anyone who wants to have coffee at home.
