Large Turkey Cooking Bags

I don't really like turkey, but the meat turns out really juicy when it's cooked in a Reynolds bag, not to mention it's a lot less work for a housewife. I first discovered this product when I moved to the US and I was very skeptical about cooking poultry in a plastic bag which could be bad for my health and pollute the environment (if people use it after cooking clean, it can be recycled as it is made from 100% recyclable plastic). This is a low density polyethylene bag that is BPA and phthalate free. However, to be on the safe side, never reach high temperatures, stay at 400 F max. To continue, add a teaspoon of flour to the bag. Put a bird inside. Seal the bag and poke a few holes with a darning needle. Place the bird in a large casserole dish (but not too deep) and you're done. So for a 3.5 pound turkey, set the thermostat between 356 and 392. In a standard oven it can take 130 minutes to cook the bird, while in a convection oven it can take 100 minutes. In theory, you should remove the white meat when it has reached an internal temperature of 69Β°C, as that is when it will reach a final resting temperature of 165Β°F. Dark meat is safe at 165 F or 74 C (don't touch the bones to take the temp), but it tastes better when the internal temperature is between 175 and 180 F simply because the connective tissue of the thighs is melting. This includes brushing the bird before bagging it (that doesn't mean stuffing, though) or slicing the white meat and letting it rest in aluminum foil while putting the dark meat back in the bag straight into the oven to seal that reach the perfect internal temperature. I think these Reynolds bags work wonders. This is for at least an 8 lb bird, they are huge and sold in packs of 2 for a very reasonable price. Fantastic invention.
