NOT BRASS! in Rough Plumbing

I was very happy to find them in Brass but they are NOT BRASS or Antique Brass but Painted Chrome or Pewter! If only I had read a lot of reviews I would have known it wasn't copper! I'll leave them, but I need to change the color somehow or use them without the aluminum delta knob. The previous one was 25 years old and one cracked and the button turned to powder!
