Review on StarTech.com 2 Port Dual Monitor DisplayPort KVM Switch with USB 2.0 Hub, Audio, and Microphone - Black (SV231DPDDUA) by Benjamin Chang

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A great KVM switch if you want to run two true 4K (4096 x 2160) monitors at 60Hz!

Until recently my setup consisted of two 31 inch LG 31MU97 monitors connected to a MacPro 2013 (dustbin) at 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz. I recently built a Threadripper machine using a GTX 1080Ti. a card that ran 2 monitors with no problem. However, I haven't had a decent way to switch between computers other than manually switching inputs on the monitors themselves and hooking up a keyboard to another computer. As you can imagine, this gets old very quickly . If you're looking for a KVM switch that can drive two monitors at this resolution, there aren't many. Adding an additional requirement for you to be able to drive 60Hz monitors, your only option is the device. However, while the specs mention 4K, they only refer to the lower resolution, 3840 x 2160, which I didn't want. So I bought the device to try it out and planned on returning it if it didn't meet the requirements. The first attempt worked fine on the Mac, but the Threadripper machine had a lot of image tearing and other artifacts. As I suspected cables (Revain Basics 10 ft Mini DisplayPort (DP) to DisplayPort) I got a different set of DisplayPort cables and the problem was solved. I'll post below the cables I have in case anyone else is looking for a similar setup: Mac KVM Switch: Use the Mini DP-DP cables that come with LG 31MU97GTX 1080Ti monitors KVM Switch: 2 x UGREEN DP to 6ft DP Cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HOVK0/)KVM Switch for LG 31MU97 Monitors: 2 Tripp Lite Mini DP-DP 6ft Cables (https: //www.amazon.com/gp /product/ B009NE77XM) The only downside to the setup is the USB switch, which is USB 2.0 only. In practice, however, this is not a problem: I only have a keyboard, a regular wireless mouse and a 3DConnexion mouse connected. Another problem is that switching between two computers takes about 6 seconds. In my opinion it's not that important, not enough to get 1 star. UPDATE: Looks like StarTech has two product IDs for DP KVM switches. I first bought and tested the SV231DPDDUA. The other which is specifically designed for 4K 60Hz is the SV231DPDDUA2 (same ID but with 2 added). The former works great at 4K at 60Hz and costs $10 less.
