Not compatible with my Thinkpad.

Two problems. First, it doesn't emulate DisplayPort monitors. So when you disconnect from your computer, both DisplayPort monitors turn off. When this happens, Windows has an annoying tendency to remap your windows onto any remaining displays (such as the built-in LCD on a laptop). The unrecoverable problem was that my Lenovo Thinkpad T460 with dual monitor docking station couldn't drive the displays through the box. No matter what I tried, the T460 claimed the displays were there, but both…

A solid switch that does what it says on the tin

I use it to switch between my work MacBook and my personal Windows desktop on two 4K monitors. Switching is very fast for the most part, and I haven't had any issues with peripherals not picking up. This KVM doesn't have display emulation, so a computer that isn't currently switched to will pretend it doesn't have a monitor attached. On my Windows machine, this causes all windows to appear on the same monitor after switching back to the machine. It takes a little longer to turn on a Mac, but it

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...

I have been using KVM switches for personal and professional use for almost 20 years and they are essential for my daily tasks. As technology advances, differences between device manufacturers make it increasingly difficult for me to find solutions that just work. I have a MAC and a PC, and the KVM I was using was so hot junk I figured it would be easier for me to switch back and forth by just moving the cables each time. After doing this in front of a customer, I decided to try again - I…

Color Me Unimpressed

I don't like leaving negative reviews, but here we are. I bought it to control switching between laptops and two external displays. First, this device does not support EDID emulation; Every time someone switches computers, the switched computer will determine that the monitor is "off" and reset the desktop to single-view mode. This will move all open windows and icons around the desktop. The only solution StarTech offers on this is their advice to "buy an EDID emulator and see if that helps"…

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Unsure

I've been testing this product for a few hours - and it works at a very basic level with the following major limitations. Issues: - Does not support static connection/EDID on an idle computer. What does that mean? This means that the slave computer that you are not interacting with will receive a DisplayPort "Hot Unplug" event and the Windows/display driver will remove the monitor(s) from the system. The side effect of this is that the next time you switch to this PC, your desktop will now be…

Pros
  • 1 year trial
Cons
  • There are errors

Until recently my setup consisted of two 31 inch LG 31MU97 monitors connected to a MacPro 2013 (dustbin) at 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz. I recently built a Threadripper machine using a GTX 1080Ti. a card that ran 2 monitors with no problem. However, I haven't had a decent way to switch between computers other than manually switching inputs on the monitors themselves and hooking up a keyboard to another computer. As you can imagine, this gets old very quickly . If you're looking for a KVM switch that…

  • Some little things

KVM are known, I had two VGA DualView GCS1742 from IOGEAR and both worked fine. However, with new monitors and quality I didn't want to use a switched VGA output on mine as all my new monitors have both Displayport and HDMI inputs and I couldn't sacrifice quality and I donated my IoGear device to charity. After reading product reviews here and online, I have questioned StarTech's Dual Head Unit - to a degree. KVMs, no matter who makes them, are not perfect creatures and require careful…

Lots of trial and error, but worth it

Traditionally, KVMs can be complex hardware. When they work, they work great. But when you have problems, they can be difficult to track down and solve. This Dual DisplayPort KVM is no different. My main computer has a graphics card with two DisplayPort outputs. That was the main reason I bought this particular KVM (rather than something more traditional like dual-DVI). Both of my monitors only have HDMI inputs, but when planning this I figured I could just use an active Displayport to HDMI…
