This set has allowed me to get the preload right, but a thousandth of an inch makes a big difference so it's hard to get it right. It took me a lot of trying on and found it more time consuming than using a ferrule but I think this is the best long term solution. My original gear set failed because the pinch bushing wrinkled a bit and eventually damaged the gear bearings. I recommend this if you don't mind an extra check of the equipment. Also remember that somewhere in the spec you have to settle for a bias, not what you had during test fitting. You can tighten it, which squeezes the gaskets and metal more together to get it closer, but it's sensitive enough that you'll end up somewhere in spec, but not necessarily with the same preload as you did during your test fit.
