Review on ๐Ÿ”ง TYC 700191 GMC Chevy Blower Assembly Replacement by Eric Broad

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product great price

I wanted to start this review by commenting on the title of this product. I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab with a folding console seat. I was looking for a fan motor as mine was intermittent and almost didn't buy this one because of the name. All the other items in the "Fan Motor" section are so named, the title on this one made me think it was just the fan motor shell or parts. I was able to find the same model at RockAuto and confirm that it is a complete motor and fan before purchasing. It's out of the way, here's my review: Background: The number 4 on my AC control box stopped working and my AC fan came on intermittently. I got feedback from my Chevy dealer about the air conditioning fan resistance and took my truck in for repair. While changing the resistor, they called me and said that the fan motor had a short circuit. The motor won't work about 90% of the time, but if you hit the kick panel just below the motor, it will work. Stealership told me they can replace the fan motor for about $260. I went online and found a video on how to change the engine on a 2005 Chevy Silverado and figured it wouldn't be too difficult. I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab with a center console that folds down into a 3rd seat. I'm not sure if the fan motor is different on full console models, I can only speak for the version I have. They make 2 versions of the fan motor, one that spins in place and one that has 3 holes to screw in. My truck used a spin model and there didn't seem to be any room to screw it in, so keep it up. keep this in mind when purchasing. My Rating: This thing is great, looks very similar to the fan motor it replaced. I was a bit hesitant to buy it since there weren't any reviews for it, but since I found it on RockAuto I took a chance. At number 1, it's a little louder than my old fan, but it seems to be blowing a little harder. My fan has had intermittent problems all year, so it may have been quieter when it died and stopped blowing as hard. Installation was very easy and I'll cover it below. The connection matched the connector that was attached to the old engine and it went in with no problem. Delivery is very fast, the seller sends 2 hours after the order. It took a little longer than I was hoping to get here but due to the Christmas holidays shipping has been slower everywhere. Installation: My model truck has black plastic trim under the passenger's feet. It is held in place by 5 screws and 2 of those screws are very difficult to remove. 3 just below the passenger's feet was easy to remove, but 2 just above the center hump in my truck was only possible with little effort. The entire installation took about 45 minutes of which 20 minutes was spent screwing in the 2 screws on the bar. After loosening these 5 screws, you can pull out the black protective plate. You will see the bottom of the fan motor hanging out from under the glove box. There is a small dent on the left side of the fan motor, right where it meets the plastic case. Pull down on this tab and turn the motor clockwise about 2 inches. It detaches from its holder and falls out. Unplug it and pull out the old motor completely. The new engine is installed in the same way as the old one was removed. Connect it, put it back in the hold with the tongue to the left, about northwest. Once inserted into the hole, press down firmly and twist counterclockwise until the tab clicks into place. I would recommend testing it before installing the flapper, it rubbed a bit the first time I put it in and I had to take it out and put it back in. Once you have the engine installed and it is running, install the skid plate the same way you removed it. Good luck installing the two middle screws. :) I hope this review helps, I didn't find many installation instructions for a 2006 Silverado, everything was for last year's models. The 2005 Silverado has 2 panels that must be removed to access the fan motor. I think in 2006 they wanted to make things easier or find a way to save some money.
