A family member managed to melt our plastic microwave lid in the microwave. It was a cleaning nightmare and a wake up call. If a plastic lid can break down like that, then we've probably been eating outgassing plastic the whole time. This was the only well rated glass lid I could find. I was skeptical but it can lay flat on a turntable or large cymbal and the scalloped edges allow for ventilation. I put it on the plates. Although this seals them up we haven't had any issues in about 6 months of use. No cracks, chips etc. Two thumbs up for a well thought out and well made product.
