I have a small table and I've noticed the veneer around the edges is puffy from condensation from the drinks. I wish I had these beautiful cork coasters before I mess up the table! They absorb, but not like a sponge. Moving in takes a little while. They are also very light in weight. This means that the coaster sometimes sticks to the wet bottom of the drink or to puddles of condensation and drips while drinking. It comes with multiple coasters, so don't hesitate to swap them out if that happens. I also use them as a trivet for a warm plate or on a mug for bugs and parsing outside. For tea I use the top and bottom for insulation. The standing hole is cute! Make sure it is completely dry before storage. Because they absorb, mold can grow on them, but I haven't had any problems with that.
